The US is not what it was. A constiutional monarchy spreads down the east coast, a theology has overtaken the Northwest and everything else has succumbed to anarchy. The lame son of one of the King's generals and his loyal friend head off to reclaim a castle in Colorado where democracy had its last stand.

Here's an excerpt:

They stood side by side on the path, staring at the sight of certain doom. Bri exhaled, "You know how doing dangerous and stupid hero stuff is usually your job? You know how I'm supposed to trail after you and remind you of how stupid and dangerous it is, as if I have the power to stop you?"

"Yeah," Jeremiah sighed. This time he was looking a little less forward to it. "At least, I have this sword. It's always cooler with a sword."

As Jeremiah's hand gripped the hilt, Bri breathed, "Yeah. It's nice the roles are reversed for once."

Jeremiah had started to pull the sword from the sheath, while he agreed. "Yeah." His head spun in a double take and he slammed the sword back in its sheath as Bri began to sprint. "Wait, what? Bri!"
